Period 8
Homework:  Write an essay using the critical lens and evidence from literature

  1. What is your favorite movie of all time? Why is it so good? Do you remember who you
  2. were with the first time that you saw it?  Write an essay about it as if it were a book or a play.  Give chapter titles to your favorite scenes, organize it by Act I, scene I, Act II, etc.

  1. What is your favorite song?  Why is it so good?  Do you remember the first time you heard it?  Can you remember who you heard it with?  Write about the song as if it were a poem.  Find at least one literary technique or device such as imagery, rhyme, irony, theme, message, and write about how that technique of device is important to the meaning of the poem.

Critical Lens:            “Sometimes life seems to imitate art.”  Explain what this means: (which comes first, the way people see life or the way people see art?)  Do you agree with the quote?

To support your opinion (I agree……. because……) find one example from your favorite song (poem) and one example from you favorite movie (book or play).

In this essay never ever ever use the words song or movie.  Make the reader think you are writing about a poem, a book, or a play.
